Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool: ISAK takes over
Ipswich v Liverpool · Premier League · 4 September 2026
Reds cruise to a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town as Alexander Isak has officially arrived in Merseyside.

Eight minutes, two goals, game over
Isak scored in the 5th and the 8th. Gakpo assisted both. What a start from Isak, Gakpo and the Reds. This is exactly what Liverpool needed from their number 9 as he finds the back of the net twice in the span of 3 minutes to vault Liverpool up in the EPL standings now sitting in 6th place overall after this weekend. The whole team played well but the icing on the cake was the superb link-up play between Gakpo and Isak as they were able to produce moments of magic that ended up with a brace for our club record signing.
This was a case of just top-class finishing by Alexander Isak on Friday night. The fact that the xG was so low on both shots which led to goals illustrates the ability that this lad has and on any given night can light up the scoreboard and make it look as easy as he did against Ipswich Town. This is not the only joy Isak has found against Ipswich in the PL, he bagged a brace against them when he was a member of Newcastle United F.C. during the 2024-25 PL season. This was the quality that the Liverpool fans have been anguishing for over the past year since last year’s summer transfer window — finally coming to fruition at the start of this Premier League campaign. I also loved the fact that Barcola came onto the pitch for a couple of minutes and showed his pace and willingness to attack and stretch the pitch. I would love to see him play around 60 minutes in the next game.

The uncomfortable part
Liverpool won 2-0 and were still outshot 14 to 10. The expected goals finished 0.74 to 0.60 — the closest margin of the season so far.

The performance overall was good and I think the fact that we kept a clean sheet for the first time and started Araújo at right back led to a much more solid back line of defenders while also allowing our attackers and midfielders to go higher up the pitch.

How the prediction did
I called 3-1, with Muñoz, Isak and Szoboszlai scoring. It finished 2-0, with Isak scoring both.
Not too bad for my first guess at what would happen!
What it means
Great timing to get Iraola a win away from home before his first European night. This should inspire him and the team to keep fighting to get better.
